I did not iniate this project, but I am so happy to get involved in this project.

This is an arduino controlled solar batterry charger by making use of an automotive alternator.

The alternator is driven with a belt from a 230VAC elelctric motor.

The idea is to be able to top up solar battery bank while experiencing low light on panels or cloudy days or even night times.

The goal is not to fully charge the deep cycle batteries, but only to top up to keep the laod going during low light.

The arduino cuts the electric motor on and off according to set values.

The alternator is ignited with aid of a hall sensor and relay.

The amps display and maths were done by Schalk and Dieter form www.house4hack in Centurion. Its our place of hacking.

I altered and added the following aspects to the sketch:

1. Led indication for charging, non charging and alternator error.

2. I added the internal pull up resistor for hall effect tability.

3. I added the cut of values in volts regarding charging and non charging cycles.

4. I tidied the LCD display somewhat to display volts too.
